Lemuel Benedict, a Wall Street broker, was suffering from a hangover and is credited to having invented “Eggs Benedict”. Trying to cure his hangover, he ordered “some buttered toast, crisp bacon, two poached eggs and a dash of hollandaise sauce” at the famous Waldorf Hotel in New York. The Waldorf’s legendary Chef, Oscar Tschirky, was so impressed that he put the dish on his breakfast and luncheon menus. However, Chef Tschirky decided to substitute Canadian bacon for crisp bacon and a toasted English muffin for the toasted bread. So in honor of Mr. Benedict 119th St. Diner now offers 9 varieties of Eggs Benedict.
We have the best selection in Kansas City. You can play it safe with our traditional eggs benedict or if you are feeling a little adventurous try the Cordon Bleu, made with a toasted English muffin, poached eggs, smoked ham and Swiss cheese and drizzled with our Dijon hollandaise sauce.
